The subtle art of not giving a fuck

This book has nothing to do with being indifferent, stone cold and an asshole as the title may suggest…. quite far from it.

It is loaded with really interesting examples, stories to hammer the concepts home — from Charles Bukowski, Budha, Metallica, Megabaath, the Beatles etc… to books like “The Denial of Death” by Ernest Becker.

Interestingly it goes against all concepts i had come to accept of self-improvement books…be positive minded, pursue happiness, find your purpose in life, avoid negative emotions, you can get a better this, a better that… etc

The author argues that we are always looking for the next great/best/shiny/beautiful thing and never satisfied—literally giving too many F*cks :))!! without thinking or choosing.

The book encourages you to accept your mediocre, choose your pain, to understand that there is nothing special about you, however just like the proverbial eat your veges…. this level of acceptance, humility and comfort intern puts you on the path to continuous self-improvement.

The entire book is themed on learning how to focus and prioritize your thoughts effectively based on finely honed personal values.

The author cleverly borrows concepts from “the denial of death” and links it nicely; Ernest argues that we are all aware on some level that our physical self will eventually die, that this death is inevitable and that its inevitability—and on some unconscious level—scares the shit out of us.

Put simply choosing what to —and what not to — give a F*ck about!! As we work on our immortality projects (what motivates our every action so that we are remembered when we inevitably die).

Deserves a 5 star but some of the concepts are overbeaten and repeated, too many examples where given in some chapters.
