Trevor Noah does a wonderful job giving a full account of his life growing up in South Africa as a mixed kid. Loved the fact that he spent most of the book talking about the perils of growing up in hardship, and how it shaped him, something many kids from difficult backgrounds can relate.
He uses a combination of wit and great storytelling to capture your imagination, he allows the reader to be a part of his story; by seeing him grow up and become the person he is today.
The fact that you get see what he was like before he went to the top of journalism, makes you appreciate his authenticity at CNN.
I was able to vividly imagine Trevor at all stages of his life.. hustling on the streets to make ends meet, Dj’ing at school events, growing up with his stepdad, his mother getting shot by the stepdad etc. And trying to discover his identity as an African. Great delivery!
I believe by listening to the audiobook instead of reading you are able to get a full load of Trevor’s wit. Quite immersive i finished in one sitting.
